Co-occurring disorders refers to people who are simultaneously wrestling with both a substance abuse problem and or a behavioral or serious medical conditions. FSR recognizes that millions of adults have co-occurring disorders but only a certain percentage of individuals receive treatment for both conditions with half the percent receiving no treatment at all. Mental health and substance abuse often co-occur; in other words, individuals with substance abuse conditions often have a mental health conditions at the same time and vice versa. At FSR, we’re committed to building a strong service system for individuals with co-occurring disorders this includes involving consumers’ families (if requested) in the service planning, assessment and recovery process. FSR’s initiatives will ensure that each participating peer steps closer to achieving rehabilitation, self-advocacy, and ultimately leading healthier more favorable lifestyles.
